“Leavin’ “- Jesse McCartney
Wow, it’s really been a while since I’ve written something. I went to Canada a week ago and I’ve been catching up with my summer school work since I’ve been back. Sorry! Well, on to the song!
I wasn’t really into this song until I noticed the cool cellphone beeping noise that makes up the beat of the song! And that’s how small of an attention span I have. : ] Ok, but seriously, the song is really good and apparently people didn’t need me to tell them that because the song has steadily made it’s way to the top of the charts. It shows a new, more adult side of Jesse McCartney that’s actually different from his usual style. The songs that I’ve heard anyway, and that’s not enough to know that this is definitely unique from his usual love songs. The serious adult style is something he should stick to, since it’s gotten him so popular. If you watch the video, you’ll know what I’m talking about. It was surprisingly hotter than I was originally prepared for when watching it. However, there isn’t really a background, which is refreshingly different from most videos. It’s just a boy, a girl, and a bed or chair. It really helps the video’s intended feel. The vid’s already up. Hope you like it!

“7 Things”- Miley Cyrus
I’d take Miley over her alter-ego Hannah anyday. Her songs just sound more real. What the heck am I saying?!? They’re the same person! “7 Things” is Miley’s new songs (or video, anyway) and is becoming a huge hit already. Personally, I just like the really fast chorus lyrics. It’s the kind of song that you keep playing over and over again in order to hear exactly what exactly the “7 things things she hates about him” are. It’s actually a pretty good song. And the video was very…interesting. Miley and a few other girls tearing up pictures and everything else to get their point across. I just wasn’t that into it. I mean, I can relate to the point of the song and all, but between those crazy girls and Miley Cyrus’ surprisingly large range of facial expressions, I didn’t find anything particularly new or different in this video that I haven’t seen in other “break-up” videos. But I still have to praise this song because it is very good, on par with “See You Again” possibly. So if you like the song, definitely check out the video. You might just like it!

“When I Grow Up”- Pussycat Dolls
I wasn’t really a fan of the “Pussycat Dolls”. I’m still not an obsessive fan, but I think this is one of their better songs. It’s got a catchy, fast beat that’ll get you singing (or rather trying to sing) the chorus lyrics over and over again until your annoyed friends start yelling at you to “shut up already!!!”. Anyway, I’ve tried to sing to it, but I only get so far until I start mumbling to it. “Lalala, MTV, la la..me…um…er…”. You get the point here. But it doesn’t really matter to me because I could just hum to the song and it would still be equally good. Now on to the pros and cons of the music video. Pros: It’s a great vid filmed on the streets with the Pussycat Dolls in kinda 70s-chic clothing with great music, singing and, of course, dancing on their part. After all, would it really be a Pussycat Dolls music viddeo without awesome dance moves? Cons: It reminds me to much of their “Wait a Minute” music video except it doesn’t have Timbaland. But there are significant differences between the songs, so one can easily overlook the cons and enjoy the song and video, which I’ve posted video.

“That’s What You Get”- Paramore
Another hit from Paramore. And right about now is when i shout out my thanks to my friend for getting me into this band (Thank you!). She was actually mad before cuz this was “her band!!!” and now everyone’s listening to them. Ahh… that aside, the band has made their way to the top of music charts everywhere. “That’s What You Get” gives us that same classic feel of the ups and downs of love that keeps us coming back to Paramore for more. Fact: the word “paramour” means “illicit lover” or “secret lover”, or at least that’s what I’ve heard. See, now you can say that you learned something today! When I first heard the song, I thought it was kinda slow (very un-Paramore) and I couldn’t have been more wrong. It definitely keeps up with the louder than life reputation of the band. Just goes to show that you can’t judge a song by the first 30 seconds of it. Hayley Williams, lead singer of Paramore, does an amazing job, as usual, and the other members of the band were definitely on the mark with this song. And the vid is great, too. It’s very natural looking, nothing flashy, with a lot of just regular people in it. Though I haven’t been a fan of every Paramore song, this one is a slightly unexpected favorite and I definitely reccomend that you listen to it at least once. Or maybe a few more times. It takes a while to really like a song sometimes. The vid’s up already!

“Forever”- Chris Brown
I’m usually not into music like this. It’s either fast-paced hip hop songs or slow dance-with-the-guy-of-your-dreams songs. “Forever” is a kind of a slow song, but it still holds a slightly faster pace with it. Then there are those people who insist on dancing to it like they’re rockin’ out to it in a club. I tried to dance to it like that, and let me tell you that it was nothin’ but akward. Imagine dancing to a slowed-down version of “Crank that Soulja Boy”. See it now? I’m not saying that the song is lazy and slow. It actually has a faster beat in it that’s just perfect for the love song lyrics that it accompanies. It has a nice swaying beat that you could easily clap the rhythm out to. Not exactly slow dance material, but still a good song to dance to with that special someone. Overall, this song isn’t horrible and it gets an OK from me. The music vid isn’t bad either. It’s got a city background, Chris Brown dancing (a lot, but c’mon, who’s gonna complain about that?), and the blurred background that appears when he’s with his girl is the perfect touch for a great love song. The vid’s already up!

“My World”- SR-71
Why has no one ever heard of this band??? Actually, I’d never head of them either until I accidentally came across this song. It’s an alternative song but not well-known enough. And at some parts you can almost hear some screamo lines, just enough so that you can hear it, but little enough so that it’s not totally repulsive (you can tell that I’m not a big fan of screamo music). Though I have to admit that the song is kinda sad, too. It’s about a guy’s girlfriend (or ex) is with another guy. Despite it being sad, it’s such a cute song about his love for her. This is also one of SR-71’s sweeter songs. Their other songs, such as “Tomorrow”, are much more hard rock with more of a screamo sound to them. Too much screamo for me, anyway. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get a video up for this one. I’m not even sure if there is one. *sigh* But there are a ton of AMV’s on youtube for this song out there, so there may be hope for this song yet! : ]

“Shake It”- Metro Station
I was wary of this song at first, but it’s really good. It kinda gives you a disco tech feel at the beginning, but that works for this band and this song. It’s one of those songs that you can’t help but get up and dance to! I highlt suggest this one for parties (I speak from experience). Even if you’re not exactly a discofever eccentric (which I’m not, for the record). There’s also kind of a …rock tone in it? I’m not sure how to exactly describe it, but it’s a sure hit among fans of different genres of music. I finally got the video up for it, too. It took me a while to find it, I’m not sure why. Oh well! The video is really fun; it basically revolves around a dance-off that takes place in what looks like an abandoned theater, with Metro Station playing right in the middle of it, of course. And it all ends with them all being chased out by the police. Ah, that’s a hit video, right there. Enjoy!

“I Kissed a Girl”- Katy Perry
First time that I heard this song, it was with a couple of girl and guy-friends. We girls loved it and knew all the words. The poor guys were scared out of their minds, especially when we belted out “taste of her cherry chapstick!!!”. Aw man. Well, after extensive psyco-therapy, they got over it. “I Kissed a Girl” is Katy Perry’s huge hit and is all over the radio right now. And a lot of people have told me that she is singing from a boy’s point of view…What?!? Um, no. As far as I can see, the clues in the song indicate that she is. First of all, we know from the beginning that she’s drunk, which may have been why she kissed a girl. Then during the bridge, she says “Us girls we are so magical…”, which means she is a GIRL. Just some context clues for you. The video is pretty basic actually. No, she doesn’t kiss a girl in it. It shifts between scenes from a crazy party and scenes of Katy Perry in a really short dress (but probably not the shortest I’ll ever see). So if your not against the song, at least give it a listen. The video is up already.
